Supplemental FMEA for Monitoring and System Response (FMEA-MSR)
Version 2023 of XFMEA/RCM++ adds support for Supplemental FMEA for Monitoring and System Response. FMEA-MSR looks at systems in an operational context, once they have reached the customer or user; it is a way of assessing risk reduction based on diagnostic monitoring and system response— in other words, the effectiveness of the systems that are in place for maintaining safety and/or compliance.
This is evaluated in XFMEA/RCM++ using three rating scales:
- Severity after MSR: applied to an effect, indicates the seriousness of the consequences of failure after the monitored system response (as opposed to the severity rating scale, which looks at consequences of failure without any mitigating system response).
- Frequency: the frequency of a failure cause in an operational context (as opposed to in a pre-release context, which is measure by the occurrence rating scale).
- Monitoring: how likely a failure cause is to be detected in an operational context (as opposed to in a pre-release context, which is measured by the detection rating scale).
These scales, along with the text fields relevant to FMEA-MSR, can be enabled and configured on the FMEA > MSR page of the interface style, accessed by choosing Project > Management > Configurable Settings > Interface Style.
Two new profiles were added that have all of the relevant fields enabled. If you are working with a database that was created in a previous version of the software and would like to have the new profiles available for use in that database, you can import the profiles "DFMEA: AIAG & VDA-1 W/MSR" and "DFMEA: J1739 (2021) W/MSR" from the default library file that is installed with the current version in the ReliaSoft folder under My Documents on your computer (e.g., C:\Users\username\My Documents\ReliaSoft\Common\Library.lb23).
The MSR scales and metrics behave similarly to RPN scales and metrics in terms of how they are displayed and used in priority highlighting, reports and queries.
