Working with Configurable Settings

This topic provides information on how to manage and edit configurable settings that are saved in profiles and libraries. For a discussion of how to use configurable settings in a project, either by applying them from a library or by modifying them for just one project, see Using Configurable Settings in Projects.

  • To edit the settings in the active library for use in multiple projects: The Profiles/Library Manager allows you to edit settings in the active library.
  • To use a different library:
    • For standard databases, you can choose a different library file to be active by clicking the Browse button in the address bar at the top of the Profiles/Library Manager.
    • For enterprise databases, the library is stored directly in the database; it can be edited, but you cannot use a different one.
  • To use a library from a previous version:
    • For standard databases, you can upgrade a library from a previous version simply by setting it as the active library. When you open an older version library, an upgraded copy will be created, with "_V22" appended to the filename. For example, if you open "MyLibrary.lb10," the Version 2022 library that is created will be called "MyLibrary_V22.lb22."
    • For Version 8 and later, the library that is stored within an enterprise database is automatically upgraded when you upgrade the database. If you need to use library settings from a Version 5 database, see Converting Libraries and Profiles from Version 5.

Note: Staring in Version 21.0.2, only databases and libraries from Version 9 and later can be converted.

  • To import settings, including profiles, to the active library from another library: Use the Import button in the Profiles/Library Manager. For details, see Importing Settings to a Library.
  • To replace settings in the active library with settings from another library: Use the Copy Existing button in the settings window that you have accessed from the Profiles/Library Manager. For details, see Copy Existing.
  • To return the active library to the original shipped settings:
    • For standard databases, you can restore a copy of the default library and make it the active library.
    • There is no option for restoring the default library in enterprise databases, but you can import settings from the default standard library file in the ReliaSoft folder under My Documents on your computer (e.g., C:\Users\username\My Documents\ReliaSoft\Common).
