Default Component Properties
When you manually add a component to the system hierarchy, that component's properties are automatically populated with default values. The default values that are originally set in the software do not represent actual data for the component; you will need to specify the appropriate value of each property using information from a manufacturer's data sheet or parts list to ensure accurate predictions.
If there are certain components that you frequently use in your analysis, you can customize the default values of those components. This way, when you add the component to the system hierarchy, the component's properties will be automatically populated with your preferred values. Note that the default values are stored on your computer, and they are different for each user.
Tip: If you wish to maintain the same set of default values for different database users and/or use those values across several prediction folios or projects, we recommend that you create a library file for those components instead. (See Using Custom Library Files.)
Modifying the Default Values
To modify the default values, first specify the values for the component in any prediction folio, and then save those values as the defaults by choosing Prediction > Component Defaults > Save as Default.
You can then apply the saved values to any component of the same category type and prediction standard by clicking the component in the system hierarchy and choosing Prediction > Component Defaults > Set to Default.
Note that this will replace the component's existing properties. There is no undo for resetting a component's properties to the default values.
Restoring Defaults
To reset all the default values to the settings shipped with the software, click the Reset Component Defaults button on the Reset Settings page of the Application Setup. Note that the default values are stored on your computer. This means that resetting your default values will not affect the default values set by another user.
Displaying Notifications When Components Use Default Values
Whenever you open a prediction folio, Lambda Predict checks the property values of all the components in the folio against the current default values on your computer. If any component uses all the current default property values (i.e., if none of the component’s properties have been changed from the current defaults), the application displays a warning message. This can be useful for helping you find and update the properties of components that are still using the default values originally set by the software. However, if you have saved customized defaults for components that you frequently use in your analyses, you may choose to disable/hide the warning.
The warning message can be displayed in the System Hierarchy panel and whenever you open a prediction folio that contains components using the current default property values.
- In the System Hierarchy panel, the "Default (Not Set)" column may display any of the following icons (to hide or display columns, right-click anywhere in the system hierarchy, and then click Customize Columns to select which columns you want to display):
A red icon indicates that all the properties of a component are using the current default values.
A yellow icon indicates that some properties are using the current default values. Double click the icon to see a list of those properties.
- If you wish to see/hide the warning message when you open a prediction folio that contains components using the current default property values, select or clear the Default Component Warning check box on the Other page of the Application Setup.
