Repairing, Removing or Marking a Part as Failed
Repairing a Part
Use Repair Part to indicate that the part was restored and remains in the system.
The Repair Part Utility only requires you to specify a failure type, but you can also record time/usage data (“Run Hours”). (See "If Applicable, Record Time/Usage.")
XFRACAS assumes that parts are repaired to “good as new” condition (0 run time hours).
Removing a Part
Use Remove Part to indicate that a part, either failed or functional, was removed from the system.
This utility is useful for non-repairable systems and cases where repairing or replacing the part is not required or not feasible. If the part is serialized, it can be removed for use in another system. (See Repair or Replace Parts Utility.)
In addition to the failure type (required), you also have the option of entering time/usage data if it differs from that of the system. (See "If Applicable, Record Time/Usage.")
Note: To remove a part because a configuration was entered incorrectly, use the System > Serialized page — not this utility.
Marking a Part as Failed
For serialized incidents, you can use Mark Part as Failed to indicate that the part was found to be failed but you don’t yet know how to record it.
Marking a part as failed prohibits others from using it in another incident until it is repaired, replaced or removed. If another user attempts to do so, a warning appears indicating that the system configuration must first be updated. When information becomes available, you can remove this restriction as follows:
- Click the Repair or Replace Parts link.
- Find the part in the system configuration (left pane) and select it. In the right pane, “Part Failed - Waiting for Replacement” will appear in red.
- Click the appropriate icon to replace, repair or remove the part and update the system configuration.
